Tass his Trash - ZOMFG!!!!

About ZOMFG!!!!

Previous Entry ZOMFG!!!! Mar. 5th, 2009 @ 07:18 pm Next Entry
So there I was casually going to the mailbox at the front gate, opening it, and seeing a large brown envelope with a peculiarly familiar sticker on it and the words in bold red saying "Please do not bend" on it. And so i thought, "FUCK! it's here!"

Took the envelope upstairs. Getting more nervous with every step. And by the time I saw down at my desk with the envelope in front of me I was completely prepared to see the words "FAILED!" somewhere on something that was in that envelope. But when I opened it I saw a large piece of paper which I recognized from my quest for information about the JLPT. And sure enough,

I HAVE PASSED THE JLPT 3 TEST! O_O;;

And it was quite unexpected I might add. I really thought I had failed it with only a few points to spare. Especially when I heard those people at the actual test site saying "yeah this is my third time here but this time it's so much harder omfg!" so that wasn't exactly motivating.

Certificate Certificate The certificate that comes with passing the test.
Scores Scores As you can see I didn't really do too well but it was way better than I had expected. I had actually expected not to pass at all and that I would actually completely fail the listening part. But it turned out I did rather well on the listening part. The grammar part went really bad as expected as well, because I had only actually covered one 3rd of the prescribed material as set by the writers (AJALT) of the method (Japanese for Busy People) I use. The first part went very well as expected too. Characters and vocabulary are my strengths.
What was also in that envelope What was also in that envelope This was just included with the other 2 things. There was nothing else in the envelope.

So now I have actually passed this thing i'm quite happy.. It's also a sort of turning point in the past year or so because I have passed barely anything during that time. So, woo!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Those are such great news Zic! I'm really happy for you, you deserve it after all the hard work and anxiety. And you got a very good grade on writting, that's pretty cool too.

:D thanks paula!
I was rather satisfied with the writing grade yes. Also because I knew more than twice the number of characters required for that level so it was nice to see that paid off.

those bastards! They sent you the certificate right away, abroad no less, but if I want one I need to pay an extra 1000 yen and wait a couple of weeks!

not as long as you have i think. it was 1.5 years when i took that test.

I have studied kana and stuff by myself for a couple of months at first, then i had a full academic year of Japanese class, and during the summer after that I also had a continuation of those classes and in the new academic year I started somewhere else with Japanese classes which is where I am at now.

What is also funny is that I had only studied the first volume out of three of my Japanese learning method. And you are supposed to be able to do JLPT3 once you have done all three.. so I basically rushed the second volume and didn't even have time for the third before I took the test. So that sort of explains the rather low grammar grade.
The reason for the slow progress on those methods is basically because the calsses I was in didn't go any faster, so i've figured it'd be the best if i just get a private teacher. But she wants to start in volume three so now i'm basically just working ahead of my classes so I can start right away with three when my current Japanese class ends and I take lessons from that private teacher.

So i'm sure you will be able to get a nicer grade than I did as you will probably not have to rush things and just can do everything at your own speed. Maybe, if you want to be sure of your skill, you should get a private teacher too. I don't think it is too expensive but it does cost a fair amount of money. Oh and i also used these old JLPT books with cd's that contain the listening part, that's a very convenient tool to learn how to do the JLPT.

Good luck!

ahh okay, i've done it for two and a half years, but two years by correspondance by myself at high school then half a year gap and then half the year at uni, doing stuff i'd already learnt DX and this year i'm doing it at uni again.

goodluck with the private teacher :D the grammers kinda slow in my class too, cos i've learnt most of it before.. but the kanji i don't know and some of the vocab lol. unfortunately i really don't have enough money for a private teacher T_T I'll look for some old JLPT books though :D I may be becoming a japanese mentor for someone the year below me so that might help just with revision.

good luck to you too! you sound like you're really good :D oneday we can both be fluent and talk to each other in japanese instead of english for practise...

becoming a tutor is great for revision! I haven't done it but if you even get paid for it that would be great.

I'm only 'good' because I put so much effort into it. I actually tend to think I rather suck at languages. One of the reasons I wanted to learn Japanese was because I regretted it so much that I flunked my French and German in school, so I wanted to do it properly this time :P

Still got two more to do. Unfortunately I'm working on the day of the next scheduled test, and as I've only been here 2 days I don't wanna piss the director off by asking for the day off so soon after starting. So... at the moment... nowhere. :S
