During this lecture the doors in the back will be closed. Due to security reasons they don't want regular students near the president of Mozambique who is visiting our university right now. So if there is a fire you will all have to go through that *points* door.

-our Vibrations lecturer-

he also started of with some of the best jazz i've heard in ages.. lol.. some cover of miles davis.. can't remember the song though :S

sign up for windtunnel practical Nov. 5th, 2007 @ 10:05 pm
you know what.. i had this 1 hour in Delft, and it was this sign up thing for a practical.. it was my only hour today btw.. over there.. but as it was a sign-up hour.. so i thought it would be important enough to go.

anyway.. we first had a bit of a introduction lecture to what sort of theory we would encounter/have to use for tha practical.. and well after that we had to sign ourselves up on one of the many lists. So.. i was expecting it to be quite a bustle to get to the lists.. so i made sure i was sitting on the front row where no table would block my way.. then.. we were asked to sign up.. and -the whole- crowd moved with demonic speed towards the lists.. :S i had this posse around me and we were all going for the same list so eventually we got on that list all together.. we felt quite lucky :P

it was -madness- it was far more aggressive than what i experienced during that red hot chili peppers concert a couple of years ago. :S the guy who put our name on the list told me he was leaning on some one's knee, was squashed against some one's side and had to write in a very interesting pose common only to very extreme games of twister.

very interesting..

wtf.. Sep. 11th, 2007 @ 12:27 pm
like.. i slept 5 hours.. got up at 6:35.. showered.. stuffed my bag with edibles.. got in the car.. dad drove me to Xochipilli.. got in Delft at 8:30.. biked like a madman all the way to the faculty because there was this Maple instruction supposed to happen..

got there at 8:40 something.. tried to log in on my account.. didn't work.. went downstairs to get it fixed.. got it fixed.. went upstairs again.. logged on.. tried to start maple.. no license.. no license? huh.. nobody has a license?! wtf is going..?! several minutes later one of the instructors announced "the admins told us there could be some problems with the Maple licenses, as you may have noticed there aren't any, so you all have free hours now"

*is dumbstruck* *thinks: DUDE! I GOT HERE JUST FOR THIS MAPLE THING AND NOW YOU'RE SAYING IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN?!"*

so there..

that's how TUDelft students waste time, they sit in trains 3 hours per day to get from point A to point A and then go about their business again.

i had japanese class again yesterday.. i asked my teacher if my kana handwriting was ok.. so i showed her the practice sheets i use.. but what i forgot is that i had been practicing kana every day for the past few months so sheet after sheet turned up which sort of made me nervous :S

and there was also this weird moment while we were being told the new kana かきくけこ which is accompanied by new words (which some of us already knew of course.. as there was another girl who had been practicing kana) during which this other young woman exclaimed "HOW DO YOU KNOW ALL THOSE WORDS!?" which sounded rather funny :P as she said it with this incredible disbelief :P

teach                          > what does えき mean?
fellow student           < station
teach                          > and かぎ?
me                              < keys
other fellow student - HOW DO YOU KNOW ALL THESE WORDS?!

and has anybody ever heard of a perzimon? which is かき in japanese btw.. this belgian guy knew what it was and he sort of used this strange description: "yes it tastes sour and when you put in in your mouth it tastes.. *sounds of desperate longing*" i don't know about you but i found that description rather scary :P you can get the perzimon in the albert heijn apparently..

firsts Sep. 3rd, 2007 @ 10:44 pm
so the past few days have been days of firsts..

on sunday i saw.. for the first time in my life.. an airplane fold its wings.. i haven't even seen that on TV or on internet before :S that's cool :S i made pictures and clips of it because it was so cool :P

okay got on the train this morning after my dad drove me to Xochipilli transfered at Leiden.. and the train was *packed* it was like.. overkill.. and i suddenly felt old again because i'm not the youngest student anymore :P well i wasn't anyway.. but now i'm not a freshman anymore.. :S :P it was funny to see all those faces looking awkward and surprised at commuting like this.

and today i had my first lectures of the year. last year just the books were in english.. now the lectures are as well, which we have together with the english group.. and during the first lecture (Aero B) the prof reviewed half of the calculus we had last year.. :S at least i knew what he was talking about.. even though i failed calculus.. and Aero A. I asked him if there was like an Aero A pass requirement and he said "no.. but you've got to ask yourself why Aero B is after Aero A" which makes sense obviously.. but it would be cool to be able to get B before A wouldn't it :P

this year i will also have the opportunity to get more than the usual maximum amount of ECTS which is 60.. if i pass everything i can get as many as 72 ECTS i think.. which is a LOT.. people who get more than 50 ECTS are called smartasses

the 2nd and last lecture of the day was partly given by this dutch bosmongool who could speak nothing but steenkolen english.. well he probably isn't a bosmongool.. but he sure talked like one..

got my new books.. 2.. differential equations and uhm.. fundamentals of aerodynamics i think..

got my first to mangas :S :P samurai deeper kyo and uhm.. rurouni kenshin..

went to amsterdam.. tried to find liss'  faculty.. couldn't find it..

got my first japanese language course in amsterdam near liss'  faculty... which was sort of awkward as we started off practicing the sounds of the japanese syllabals of the kana syllabaries.. and we practiced writing the 1st 2 rows of hiragana (あいうえお and かきくけこ) but obviously i had already practiced this quite a while ago and am now able to write all the kana in a heartbeat..
we also practiced speech which was why i took this course.. so it wasn't all weird.. :S :P

homework consists of writing my name in katakana (ジカロ)=djikaro, learning a couple of words made out of the main vowel like ao=blue aoi=blue(addjective) en ie=house and ai=love and au=meet and ue=above and learning a couple of common phrases like good morning and goodnight and you're welcome..
the others taking the course (about 10) are nice.. they're all my age, except for the odd 30-year-old.. and i'm also the only one who seems to have long term plans with japanese language building aspirations. All the others want to learn japanese because they are either interested in the culture/language itself or are going to be a tourist.

there's also this really funny turkish guy trying to learn japanese who has japanese friends and he was like "yeah my friends talk in jap all the time so i was like " shit man! i'm going to learn that language!""  well it's not as funny hear as when he said it with his heavy amsterdam accent but anyway.. you get the picture.. :P native english speaking people should imagine a person from brooklyn saying that :P

i also tried to improve my public transport sleeping skills.. but i found out they're not as flawless in the bus as in the train.. because i had to check where we were all the time.. whereas in a train i can just get in.. sleep.. wake up at the correct station and get out.. :S :P

so now i'm supposed to say.. oyasuminasai! おやすみなさい!

psshh!

おやすみなさい

you know what.. once term has started i'm going to seriously look for a study i can do in japan.. because i'm sick of these half-ass plans. and i'm also going to do that japanese language course.. but i have to take care of that before start of term.. maybe i'll do that on wednesday.. i could just stay put in that train which will take me to amsterdam.

:S Aug. 17th, 2007 @ 05:51 pm
so i asked my parents about that japan thing yesterday.. and against all odds.. they actually said it was a good plan :S and that i should do it if i'm up to it and that it would be a great opportunity and what not. especially my dad was far more enthusiastic about it than i'd thought he'd be.

so i was sitting there before i asked it and i was like "omg they're soooo going to think i'm a moron.." but no.. so my reaction to their answer was basically "..... 0_o;;; ".

I wonder where this will go..

and on the DIY side.. i have found something new to create.. i don't have a "water-dropper" so i'm going to make that from a bit of leftover wood from my brush hanger project. But this thing will probably have to wait until after the resits.. because i'm not sure how much time this thing is going to take. even though it's quite small.

oh and btw.. i also made a brush rest some time ago.. but that was so quick i didn't even made an entry about it.. i made it from the leftover hardwood i got from my gramps.
